Q: When and where does The HUB meet?
A: The HUB meets on Friday mornings from 9-12pm at Gateway Church, 890 Sarnia Rd in London, ON.
The rental facility at Gateway includes the following: full access to the upper level (4 classrooms, including a large main space/auditorium), double gym downstairs, and new outdoor playground with large green space.
Q: How often do you meet, and what is the schedule like?
A: The HUB will run from the end of September until end of April, with a winter break during the latter half of December and all of January. Our co-op has opted to follow a schedule of 3 weeks on/1 week off, with that 4th Friday being an optional park gathering, field trip (extra cost), or week off.
Q: What kinds of activities/classes can I expect to be offered at the HUB?
A: Our co-op will offer group enrichment activities for grades K-12, which may include things such as music, beginner band, gym, art, science, STEM, drama, dancing, sports/outdoor activities, etc. The goal is for the children to have FUN together in a group environment! Core subjects such as English, math, religion, etc. will not be part of our programming.
Babies and toddlers are welcome and we have some accommodations available: however, our space does not allow for dedicated rooms, and programming is limited for toddlers (snack, colouring page, and videos) at this time. In the spirit of building community, our hope is that the group will come together to help support these wee ones when moms need to teach or help.
We also will have a parent lounge with coffee and snacks to enjoy when you aren’t teaching or helping!
Q: How much does it cost?
A: The yearly HUB cost is currently estimated to be $100 per K-12 child and $50 for toddlers (ages 2-3), up to a maximum of $300 per family. No fees for babies under 1 as they will stay with their parent. No HSLDA membership is required. Yearly fees will be required at the beginning of the year (likely in mid-September) unless special circumstances are arranged.
Q: What is expected of the parent(s)?
A: The HUB is a parent-run homeschool co-op, which means most all activities are run or taught by parents. Most activities work best with one parent lead and one parent helper per classroom.
At this time, it is anticipated that parents will be required to teach/run 1-3 activities (lasting 3, sometimes 4 weeks) per year, as well as be the secondary/helper parent as needed.
Q: What other things does The HUB have to offer?
A: We have a lot of fun dreams for this co-op, including offering things like a yearbook, mom’s nights out, field trips, service projects, graduation celebration/party, Christmas party, Christmas caroling in the community, and much more!
